Huma Qureshi demands equal punishment for online abuse

‘Delhi Crime 3’ actress Huma Qureshi demands equal punishment for online abuse as for eve-teasing in public; ‘If you are slipping into my DMs…’

In the age of social media, it is undeniable that online presence also comes with its own drawbacks. On the one hand, where it brings the world closer to you, it also allows predators to slide into DMs or comments and harass females. While speaking on this subject, ‘Delhi Crime 2’ actress Huma Qureshi advocated the same punishment for online abuse as there is for harassment in public spaces. She said just because the harassment took place in the digital space, it doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be consequences for it.

Huma Qureshi on online harassment

While speaking to the Male Feminist, the actress drew examples from her own life and spoke about the offensive messages she had to face. She recalled comments that asked her to post pictures in objectionable attire. “I’m like – kya kar rahe ho boss? (What are you doing?) It’s disgusting. It’s sad,” she said. She then added that such behaviour should be subjected to proper punishment and not a milder dose. “In my opinion, the punishment for harassing a woman on the street and harassing her online should be the same. There is no difference,” she said. “If you are slipping into my DMs, sending dirty pictures or writing vulgar comments on my posts, you should face the same consequences as someone misbehaving in a public space,” the ‘Maharani’ actor quoted. The actress added that the emotional impact on a person’s dignity made by trolls should be addressed.

Huma Qureshi’s request to society

Further, the actress urged society to stop policing women on grounds like their work, dress or lifestyle choices. She said, “Please stop commenting on how women dress, what makeup they wear, how they live, what job they do, what time they come home, or what their weight is.

Huma Qureshi’s work

Huma has been making some noise in the OTT space and for all the right reasons. Recently, she appeared in ‘Maharani 4’ and ‘Delhi Crime Season 3.’
