‘House of the Dragon’ is headed for war in its upcoming third season, with cast and creators teasing what could become one of the ‘craziest’ episode in television history.Set nearly 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’, the series chronicles the brutal Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. After a build-up across two seasons, Team Black and Team Green finally go to war and send Westeros into chaos.
‘Battle of the Gullet’ to be CRAZIEST episode
Speaking in Entertainment Weekly’s latest cover story, series co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal teased that the infamous Battle of the Gullet will be “arguably the craziest episode of television ever made.”Emma D’Arcy, who leads the series as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, teased, “The series this time around starts at 60 miles an hour. We’re finally watching a war that has been building for two seasons.”“It felt to me that the bar had been raised — and I’m a competitive person, so I wanted to meet that,” the actor added about the show that returns to screens on June 21.Meanwhile, Ewan Mitchell, whose Aemond Targaryen currently occupies the Iron Throne, promised, “It’s all-out war. It’s just a blitz straight out of the gate.”
About the ‘Battle of the Gullet’
The Battle of the Gullet is expected to serve as the centrepiece of the premiere episode. The sequence adapts one of the bloodiest naval conflicts in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and reportedly took four years to develop for the screen.Condal further went on to explain, “To try to tell this story without doing the Gullet would be trying to film ‘Lord of the Rings’ without doing the Battle of Helm’s Deep. If we were gonna do it, we had to do it right.”The battle will see Admiral Sharako Lohar, played by Abigail Thorn, lead the Triarchy fleet in an attempt to break House Velaryon’s blockade of the Gullet. “She’s Captain Ahab in this episode. She’s on a quest for her white whale,” Thorn said.The massive conflict will unfold across both sea and sky as dragons join the battle, with characters including Harry Collett’s Prince Jacaerys Velaryon and Bethany Antonia’s Lady Baela Targaryen taking to the battlefield on their dragons. The battle was also teased in the trailer that dropped early this month.
‘House of the Dragon’ to end after Season 4
Condal also confirmed that the series is still expected to conclude with Season 4. “I can’t speak for everybody else involved with the show and HBO and all that, but, yes, that is very much my plan,” Condal said. Go to Source
