Govinda to Akshay: ‘Changla distos, tu hero ban’

How Govinda saw the star in Akshay Kumar before he became Bollywood’s Khiladi: “Changla distos, tu hero ban na”; Here’s what happened next

Bollywood sensation Akshay Kumar continues to impress the audience through his versatility and commitment, on-screen/and off-screen. Most recently, Akshay returned to theaters with Subhash Kapoor’s courtroom comedy ‘Jolly LLB 3.’ The film was released on September 19 and starred alongside Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla.

When Govinda spotted the star in Akshay

Akshay’s journey to fame was not simple. Before making a name for himself, he struggled with several jobs, including working as a light boy for photographers. In a recent episode of ‘Aapki Adalat,’ Akshay shared a story about how he ran into veteran actor Govinda and how the encounter changed his life. Akshay originally was taking pictures of actors when Govinda noticed him and said, “Tu changla distos, hero ban na tu.” Initially shocked, Akshay laughed it off, but the rest of his future would demonstrate that the comment would ultimately be true. Years later, Akshay would go on to star alongside Govinda in the film ‘Bhagam Bhag’ (2006), ultimately becoming the leading man in Bollywood.

Box office collection of ‘Jolly LLB 3’

According to Sacnilk, the film received an impressive reception in its first four days in India and garnered around ₹ 59 at the box office. After several years, both titular advocates return in the film, wherein Akshay and Arshad shamelessly amp up the crazy elements as they join together to take down a legal case, with Saurabh reprising his role as the disgruntled Justice Tripathi. The film also features Amrita Rao and Huma Qureshi in a few key roles and appears entertaining, judging by its approximate run time of 160 minutes. ‘Jolly LLB 3’ is yet another achievement in Akshay Kumar’s constantly shifting career, showing that he has a real talent for humor tied to socio-cultural context. He has shown an extraordinary ability to experiment with genres, not just as action heroes but also, more importantly, as social messengers, regardless of whether audiences are comfortable with that. Akshay has found ways to resonate with audiences of all demographics and many rich and varied backgrounds.
