FWICE appeals to Modi to honour Satish Shah with Padma Shri

FWICE appeals to PM Narendra Modi to honour late Satish Shah with Padma Shri posthumously, 'It would be a most fitting tribute to his life'

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has made a heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to confer the prestigious Padma Shri award posthumously upon late actor Satish Shah. The federation, representing 36 affiliated associations of the film and television industry, said the move would be a fitting tribute to the actor’s remarkable career and lasting impact on Indian entertainment.

‘A rare and gifted artist who brought joy to millions’

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, FWICE expressed deep admiration for Shah’s legacy, writing, “Respected Modiji, with folded hands and deep respect, we, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), humbly appeal to kindly consider conferring the Padma Shri Award (Posthumously) upon Late Shri Satish Shah, one of India’s most beloved and distinguished actors.”The letter praised Shah as “a rare and gifted artist whose work brought joy, laughter, and emotion to millions across our nation.” It further noted his unforgettable performances in ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, and several other memorable projects that turned him into a household name.

‘A compassionate soul who supported the industry selflessly’

Beyond his work onscreen, the federation highlighted Shah’s warmth and generosity within the industry. “He was deeply respected by the working community and supported several welfare initiatives of FWICE with generosity and grace,” the letter stated, adding that his death has left “an emotional void in the hearts of all who knew him.” The appeal further read, “Honouring him with the Padma Shri Award (Posthumously) would be a most fitting tribute to a life devoted to art, culture, and service through entertainment. It would recognise not just an actor, but a man who made India smile for over four decades.”

Satish Shah, Beloved ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ Star, Passes Away at 74

A tribute to a legend who made India laugh

The federation concluded the letter by expressing faith in the Prime Minister’s continued recognition of India’s cultural torchbearers. “We, the entire film and television fraternity under FWICE, place this humble request before you with the deepest faith in your continued encouragement,” it said.Satish Shah passed away in Mumbai on Saturday at the age of 74 due to complications arising from a kidney ailment. The actor, who had undergone a kidney transplant earlier this year, was reportedly hoping to recover so he could care for his wife, Madhu, who is battling Alzheimer’s disease.Recently, the cast of ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ reunited to pay a touching tribute to the late actor, singing the show’s iconic title track at his prayer meet in Mumbai — a gesture that captured just how deeply he was loved and admired.
