Fans gathered for Vijay disappointed after trip cancellation

Massive crowds gather at Velankanni for Thalapathy Vijay; fans disappointed after surprise cancellation - Report

In a massive display of his public appeal, thousands of fans and devotees descended upon the Velankanni Church on May 2, 2026, hoping to catch a glimpse of superstar-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay. However, the “festival-like” atmosphere quickly turned to widespread disappointment as news broke that the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) had cancelled his visit at the last moment.

Fans left disappointed after Vijay’s visit was cancelled

Despite the massive turnout in anticipation of Vijay’s arrival, supporters were left disheartened when the visit was abruptly called off. Having waited for several hours, many fans began to slowly disperse following the announcement. The influx of people throughout the morning created significant congestion both inside and outside the church, prompting the deployment of police units from neighboring districts to manage the situation.

Church authorities request fans to maintain peace

Church authorities later made an announcement through loudspeakers requesting everyone to maintain peace and avoid disturbing regular prayers and worship activities. According to reports, the church administration said they had not received any official confirmation regarding Vijay’s visit. They also requested devotees to cooperate so that regular visitors and worshippers would not face inconvenience. During the gathering, some fans reportedly shouted slogans in support of Vijay and his party, which briefly created tension in the area. Officials then appealed to the public to remain calm and respectful.

Vijay’s spiritual visits continue to draw massive attention

Vijay has recently been visiting various religious sites, drawing massive crowds at every stop. After visiting the Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy and Shirdi Sai Baba temples, fans were hopeful he would also visit Velankanni and Nagore. While the most recent visit was cancelled, the intense excitement highlights his incredible popularity and the deep bond he shares with the public. Even minor updates about his travels continue to spark huge interest throughout Tamil Nadu.
