Eva Mendes, the 52-year-old mother and actress, wasn’t taking any chances after her surprise spotlight moment. The actress got all glammed up just in case Ryan Gosling pulled another sweet stunt on her during his SNL hosting gig.

Glam prep for a live surprise

Ryan Gosling hosted Saturday Night Live on March 6, with musical guests Gorillaz lighting up the stage. It came right after he caught Eva off guard on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he celebrated her 52nd birthday with a public shoutout, their first joint appearance since 2013. Mendes, who met Gosling in 2011 and shares daughters Esmeralda and Amada with him, decided to be ready for round two. She posted a fun Instagram video on March 9 showing her hair being teased into a chic, voluminous style while a stylist sprayed it down.In the clip, Eva Mendes sits patiently as layers of hairspray lock everything in place. She also shared a photo of herself getting eyeliner applied, eyes tilted up toward the makeup artist with a focused look. “My prep for SNL this weekend – in case I was suddenly called out in front of cameras again,” she captioned the post on Instagram. That line nods back to the Fallon moment, where Ryan Gosling joked about getting tossed in the Hudson River for surprising her, but she ended up beaming as confetti fell and everyone sang happy birthday.

A peek into their private world

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling have always kept things low-key, rarely stepping out together publicly. Their daughters, born in 2014 and 2016, stay out of the spotlight too, with Mendes often calling Gosling her “husband” without confirming details. This SNL prep post feels like a playful window into their life, especially with Gosling promoting his new film ‘Project Hail Mary’, out March 20, 2026. Fans loved the glimpse, flooding her comments with heart emojis and laughs over her “just in case” vibe.
