‘Awarapan 2’, the much-anticipated sequel to Vishesh Films’ 2007 cult classic, gets an official theatrical release on August 14, 2026, aligning with the Independence Day weekend. Emraan Hashmi reprises his role as Shivam. Promotional visuals feature a close-up of a hand with a bird tattoo, mirroring the original’s themes of freedom and redemption.

‘Awarapan 2’ stars Disha Patani

Slated as a key Independence Day blockbuster, ‘Awarapan 2’ brings Disha Patani on board in a pivotal role alongside Hashmi. Under Nitin Kakkar’s direction, the follow-up seeks to amplify the original’s emotional intensity with a bold new visual style.

‘Awarapan 2’ producer’s statement

In a press note, producer Vishesh Bhatt highlighted the film’s epic scope and heartfelt essence, “Awarapan is an emotion so large that it’s meant for the big screen. It also presents exotic settings and large scale sequences but fundamentally it’s built on our core principles of layered storytelling with powerful characters and rich music. Emraan felt the angst of Shivam so deeply that he stepped into character in a heartbeat. And with Disha Patani joining us, the world of the film opened up to new possibilities,” in a press note.

‘Awarapan 2’ production update

The original ‘Awarapan’, released almost 19 years ago, endures as a beloved classic for its tragic storyline and iconic soundtrack. The makers confirm that ‘Awarapan 2’ is wrapping up its final production phase in Mumbai and will hit cinemas worldwide on August 14, 2026.
