‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ box office day 8

'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' box office day 8: The Harshvardhan Rane, Sonam Bajwa film inches towards Rs 50 crore as 'Thamma' crosses Rs 100 crore

‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ didn’t storm into theatres with the usual fanfare of a festive biggie — yet, quietly and steadily, it’s turning into a surprise performer this Diwali season. The Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa starrer went head-to-head with Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s high-profile horror-comedy ‘Thamma’, a daunting clash for any film with limited screens. But against all odds, ‘EKKD’ has managed to hold its ground and even thrive in pockets where strong word-of-mouth is doing the talking. The film opened to a healthy ₹9 crore on day one, matching the debut numbers of ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’. It maintained a steady trajectory through the week — ₹7.75 crore on day two, ₹6 crore on day three, ₹5.5 crore on day four, ₹6.25 crore on day five, and ₹7 crore on day six. As expected, Monday saw a dip to ₹3.5 crore, but Tuesday brought a pleasant surprise with an uptick driven by discounted ticket prices. By day eight, ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ had reached ₹49.35 crore net in India, which is a good number for a midscale romantic drama released in a crowded festive frame, with much lesser screens as compared to its competition. With this, the film has also become Harshvardhan Rane’s highest-grossing outing, surpassing his cult favourite ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’. That earlier film, which had earned ₹9.1 crore during its initial release, saw a remarkable revival years later, adding ₹33.18 crore during its re-release, taking its lifetime total to ₹42.28 crore. ‘EKKD’ has now comfortably edged past that mark.Meanwhile, ‘Thamma’ continues to lead the box office race, nearing the ₹90 crore milestone by the end of its first week. However, the difference in numbers looks less stark when you consider that ‘Thamma’ enjoyed nearly triple the show count and a much bigger marketing push. According to Box Office India, both films are underperforming in the Mumbai circuit, but industry chatter remains bullish about ‘EKKD’ given its controlled costs and consistent audience pull. With the post-Diwali momentum still in play, the film is expected to enjoy decent weekday stability. The absence of a sharp Sunday spike indicates that the full holiday benefit hasn’t quite kicked in yet, but the trade views its performance as a quiet win for content-driven cinema.
