Dude to break Dragon’s record as Pradeep’s biggest day 1 collection

After the success of films like Love Today and Dragon, actor Pradeep Ranganathan is all set to unleash his magic once again at the box office with his latest film Dude co-starring Mamitha Baiju. With the latest numbers coming in, Dude is expected to take the biggest opening of Pradeep’s career eclipsing his last release, Dragon’s day 1 collection.

As per Sacnilk’s report on Dude’s advance booking, before the first show rolled out today- it had an advance booking of Rs 6.94 crore and if the word of mouth on the film is strong- it can take the day 1 collection of the film to over Rs 10 crore mark. In comparison Dragon had taken an opening day collection of Rs 6.5 crore and Love Today was at Rs 4.33 crore.

Another point to note is that till Thursday morning the advance booking for the film was at Rs 2.48 crore and by Friday morning it had reached Rs 6.94 crore- thereby showcasing more than 180 % jump in the last 24 hours. In fact between Wednesday and Thursday- the advance booking of the film had shown an over 500 % jump as collection went from Rs 38.55 lakh to Rs 2.48 crore.

The film’s performance in the North American market has also shown good collection where as per Thursday numbers the film has crossed about USD 100K in the circuit with about USD 88K coming from US market and rest from Canada. The breakeven point for the film has been pegged at USD 2.3 million.

Tamil Cinema has been going through a churn at this point where none of the existing stars have been able to take up the positions of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Thalapathy Vijay. Pradeep came in as a spring of fresh hope but he will need to prove his worth at the box office with huge collections.

Pradeep will be having one more release this year and it is titled Love Insurance Kompany . At one point LIK and Dude, both were eyeing the Diwali release but ultimately Dude got the date. LIK also features Krithi Shetty, SJ Suryah and it is directed by Vignesh Shivan.
