Doomsday vs Dune 3: Robert Downey Jr CONFIRMS clash

'Dunesday': Robert Downey Jr and Timothee Chalamet CONFIRM 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Dune Part 3' clash - WATCH

Move over ‘Barbenheimer’, Hollywood may be headed straight for its next major box-office showdown – ‘Dunesday’. Robert Downey Jr. and Timothee Chalamet finally addressed the much-talked-about clash set to take place this December. The confirmation came during a ‘Marty Supreme’ Q&A in Los Angeles, where the two actors took to the stage to discuss the film and the current cinematic landscape.

Robert Downey Jr on Dune 3 vs Avengers: Doomsday clash

Addressing the much-speculated clash, between their big-budget films ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Dune: Part 3’, RDJ said, “We both have films opening on December 18, we decided to coin a name for it… We’re thinking ‘Dunesday’.” He added with a laugh, “We’ll see if we’re still friends by then.”

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ vs ‘Dune 3’

‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the next major superhero film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part 3’, the final chapter in the epic sci-fi trilogy, are both slated for a December 18, 2026 global release.

Box office performance

While ‘Doomsday’ is tipped to clinch box office gold and possibly even set a new box office record, ‘Dune’ currently ranks relatively low on the popularity charts. Unlike the ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ clash, ‘Dune’ and ‘Doomsday’ are both expected to compete directly for IMAX and other premium formats, raising questions about the profitability of this clash. While ‘Barbie’ crossed the USD 1 billion mark, ‘Oppenheimer’ settled for a USD 975 worldwide collection. With the last ‘Avengers’ film ‘Avengers: Endgame’ raking in USD 2.8 billion and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ hitting the USD 2 billion mark, it would be interesting to see how well ‘Doomsday’ performs. Meanwhile, ‘Dune’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’ have a collective total box office collection of USD 1 billion.
