Diljit Dosanjh reveals his father was a ticket checker

Diljit Dosanjh’s father was a ticket checker, reveals his salary would finish by the 2nd of the month: ‘He was like a saint’

Diljit Dosanjh, the man behind hit tracks like ‘Do You Know’, ‘Born to Shine’, and ‘Lover’, and films such as ‘Jatt & Juliet’, ‘Good Newwz’, ‘Honsla Rakh’, and ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, is known today as one of India’s biggest global icons. But behind his charm, talent, and superstardom lies a story rooted in simplicity and struggle. The singer-actor recently appeared on the latest episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, where he opened up to Bollywood superstar and host Amitabh Bachchan about his early life, his father’s humble job, and how he began singing at weddings and birthday parties to support his family.

Diljit Dosanjh shares memories from his early childhood

When Amitabh Bachchan asked about his childhood, Diljit smiled as he looked back at his early years. He said, “It was a decent childhood. I was okay in studies. I had a passion for music. When I was 10–11 years old, my parents sent me to my maternal uncle’s place. They sent me without even asking me; I thought they would consult me, but they didn’t. Ideally, they should ask children. One relative even suggested to my father to ask me, but he said, ‘What will asking achieve? Take him there.’ It felt really bad. And back then, there were no phones, so I would meet them after 3–4 months.”

Diljit Dosanjh reflects on his father’s simple life

Diljit spoke lovingly about his father, calling him a man of peace and simplicity. He recalled, “My father was in a government job; he worked as a ticket checker in roadways. That was his job. He was like a saint. He led a very normal life. He didn’t have many desires, just one bicycle, and he loved mangoes.”

Diljit Dosanjh remembers his father’s valuable advice

The singer shared a touching lesson his father once gave him, which has stayed with him through the years. He revealed, “And he once told me, ‘Beta, tumhe khane ko roti milegi, rehne ko ghar milega, baki jo zindagi mein karna chahe woh khud se kar sakte ho.’ (Son, you will have food to eat and a home to live in, and for everything else you want to do in life, you can do it yourself.)”Reflecting on that moment, Diljit added, “What more could I have asked from him? I love him dearly.”

How did Diljit start his singing career?

The singer also spoke about how he began performing long before he became a star. Dosanjh explained, “After my first album released, someone came to book me. There was a birthday party at their house, so we performed there. After that, money started coming in, and it felt good, because my father’s salary would finish by the 2nd or 3rd of the month. So it felt like this work pays well. God has been kind. After that, anyone who came to our office, we never let them leave empty-handed. Whether it was a wedding, a birthday, or any function, we performed. We started performing for 2,000 rupees, and did a lot of wedding shows.”From being the son of a roadways ticket checker to performing in small functions, and now to being a global star, his rise is nothing short of inspiring. He may fill stadiums today, but his heart remains tied to the values his father taught him, humility, hard work, and gratitude. Go to Source
