Diljit Dosanjh has earned a nomination for the ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ award at the prestigious International Emmy Awards 2025. The nomination comes for his portrayal of legendary Punjabi singer Chamkila in the Netflix biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila.Responding to the nomination, Diljit took to Instagram Stories, writing, “It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali sir @netflix_in.”
Bringing Chamkila to life
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film traces Chamkila’s journey from a Dalit Sikh family in Punjab to becoming a musical icon known for his bold lyrics and untimely death. Released on Netflix on April 12, 2024, the drama explores his rise from factory work dissatisfaction to superstardom, capturing both his controversial songs and tragic assassination at 27.Diljit’s performance has been widely acclaimed for capturing Chamkila’s charisma, complexity, and raw energy. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot, Chamkila’s second wife, and features a soundtrack composed by A.R. Rahman.
