Rahul Sadasivan’s mastery of fear in daylight

Directed by Rahul Sadasivan, Dies Irae stars Pranav Mohanlal, Arun Ajikumar, Jaya Kurup, Manohari Joy, and Gibin Gopinath. The film has been widely praised for its unconventional approach to horror. As noted in the ETimes review, “Rahul also weaves magic around the modern home that Rohan lives in. How do you create fear in daylight, in everyday moments, inside a large, open, modern room that is definitely not your cliché horror setting?”The review further highlights how the filmmaker uses light and sound as storytelling tools rather than relying on dark shadows or cheap thrills: “This is, in fact, a study in how to use light and sound to create the right chills.” The film’s success also lies in its technical finesse. As ETimes notes, “Cinematographer Shehnad Jalal, sound mixer MR Rajakrishnan, the entire sound department, editor Shafique Mohamed Ali, and composer Christo Xavier have worked hand in hand with Rahul Sadasivan to deliver this perfect fear.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
