‘Didn’t lose weight to be an actor but for health reasons’

Sonakshi Sinha says she did not lose weight to be an actor but it was for health reasons: 'I couldn't run for more than 30 seconds'

Sonakshi Sinha, made her debut with ‘Dabangg’ but before that, she lost 30 kilos of weight. The actress who was last seen in ‘Jatadhara’ has now opened up about her long and challenging weight-loss journey. Sonakshi revealed that ther motivation to lose weight was not to join movies or become an actor but she realised that it was affecting her health. She opened up on the struggles of her weight loss journey, adding that it took her two and a half years to become a healthier version of herself. Reflecting on the turning point, she recalled discovering during college that she couldn’t run on a treadmill for more than half a minute. “Weight loss was very difficult for me because I was always an overweight kid. It took me 2.5 years (to lose weight)… I didn’t do it for vanity or to become an actor. I did it for health reasons… I was 18 and I couldn’t run on the treadmill for more than 30 seconds,” she told Bharti Singh and Harrsh Limbachiyaa on their YouTube podcast, adding that the realisation hit her “very badly.”She also spoke about experimenting with different forms of exercise to keep her routine engaging. “I used to go to the gym. I used to do cardio, weight training, and I tried a variety of things. I used to do yoga. Eventually, I started Pilates.”For someone who genuinely enjoys food, Sonakshi admitted that staying consistent isn’t always easy, but finding middle ground has helped her stay grounded. “Balance” is crucial, she noted, before emphasising her commitment to a positive and realistic mindset. “I have always maintained a healthy body image. I don’t want to be someone who can’t inspire other girls. I didn’t have that role model when I was growing up. Your health and happiness are everything that matters.”
