‘Dhurandhar’: How makers erected Pak’s Lyari town in Thailand

'Dhurandhar': Here's how makers of Ranveer Singh starrer erected Pakistan's Lyari town in Thailand

In a twist of fate, Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’, originally set in Pakistan, found its new home in the vibrant landscapes of Thailand instead of Mumbai, which was plagued by weather issues. The dedicated production crew, blending talents from both Indian and Thai backgrounds, transformed the film set into a believable replica of Lyari town.

The story of Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ is set in Pakistan. However, did you know the movie was not filmed in the neighboring country or even in Mumbai? The movie was shot in Thailand due to a last-minute logistical shift because of weather issues. Let’s learn how the Lyari town shown in the movie was created in the Asian country.

How makers created Lyari town in Thailand

According to reports, the film team had planned to shoot the Lyari scenes in Mumbai; however, unpredictable weather and random rainfall made it impractical to shoot. Reportedly, the makers wanted controlled and favorable weather conditions, as they were on a tight schedule. And hence, the production team decided to erect the entire set in Thailand.

‘Dhurandhar’ Destroys ‘Coolie’, Rules North America Box Office

As per the report and the film team, Indian and Thai crew worked together to construct the Lyari town from scratch. The makers wanted it to look authentic and not just a large set.The set designers procured Urdu newspapers and old Pakistani posters to make sure that every scene looks real. And one of the most difficult tasks was hiding that the set has been located in Thailand. The team made sure that no Thai link should be visible in the frame. The production designers focused on aging techniques to create weathered walls, layered posters, and faded paint to make it look like it has been organically lived in.
