Dharmendra once fiercely responded to underworld threats

Dharmendra once tackled knife attack on himself; fiercely responded to underworld threats: ‘Whole Sahnewal will come from Punjab to fight’

Veteran actor Dharmendra, fondly known as the ‘He-Man of Bollywood’, has always been a man of power, passion, and pride, both on and off the screen. Behind the charm, laughter, and blockbuster hits lies a legend whose real-life tales could outshine any action-packed film he’s starred in Now, actor-director Satyajeet Puri has recalled some jaw-dropping memories from Dharmendra’s glorious past, revealing why the superstar continues to be remembered as one of Indian cinema’s most fearless and respected legends.

Dharmendra’s fearless warning left underworld stunned

In an interview on Friday Talkies, Satyajeet Puri recalled how the ‘Sholay’ actor’s confidence was not limited to his films, he carried it in real life too. “At that time, the underworld was very strong,” he said. “If they called an actor, people would get scared. But Dharamji and his family were never afraid.”Satyajeet Puri went on to reveal that the ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ actor once gave a direct warning to the underworld, “If you come, the whole Sahnewal will come from Punjab. You have 10 men, I have an army. Say one word, and truckloads will come to fight. Don’t mess with me.”According to Puri, after that warning, “they never messed with Dharmendra again.”

Dharmendra’s fan attcked him with knife

Satyajeet Puri also remembered another shocking moment that showed ‘Dharam Veer’ actor’s courage and composure. “Within a minute, he tackled the man himself,” he said, recalling how a fan once attacked Dharmendra with a knife.Instead of panicking or calling for help, Dharmendra handled the attacker on his own. “These days actors walk with six bodyguards, but back then, Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna would walk freely.”

Dharmendra performed risky stunt during ‘Ghulami’ shoot

Satyajeet Puri shared another amusing story from the sets of ‘Ghulami’. Known for doing his own stunts, Dharmendra decided to perform a dangerous horse-riding scene himself. “He told the team to clean the area near the horse,” Satyajeet said. “But the horse peed there, and no one noticed. As he climbed the marble stairs, the horse slipped, and Dharamji, who rides without stirrups, used his legs to steady it.”The fall could have been serious, but Dharmendra’s control and strength saved both him and the horse. Though he fell hard, he escaped without a single injury. What happened next showed his true nature. “He later gave Rs 200 to the horse’s owner, worried that the animal might be injured,” Satyajeet added.Puri couldn’t help but admire Dharmendra’s unmatched toughness. “Any other actor would have suffered multiple fractures, but Dharamji didn’t get a scratch. His legs were so strong, he saved both himself and the horse.”

Dharmendra on the work front

On the work front, Dharmendra was last seen in the 2024 film ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. He will next appear in Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Ikkis’, which stars Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda in the lead role. Go to Source
