De De Pyaar De 2 fails to cross the first weekend record of its predecessor

Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ fails to cross the first weekend record of the 2019 hit

De De Pyaar De 2, featuring the dynamic duo of Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh, kicked off with solid figures at the box office, yet it struggled to reach the heights of its predecessor. Despite showing a promising uptick over the weekend with a total of Rs 34.75 crore, it still trails the original, which debuted at Rs 37.24 crore

Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh returned to the big screen with De De Pyaar De 2, hoping to recreate the charm and box-office impact of the 2019 sleeper hit De De Pyaar De. But despite the film opening to decent numbers and showing steady growth across its first weekend, the sequel fell short of surpassing the benchmark set by the original. The 2019 film had surprised the trade with its strong word of mouth and consistent weekend momentum. Excluding the Rs 1.3 crore collected during its premiere shows, the first instalment minted Rs 37.24 crore over its opening weekend, a number that positioned the romantic dramedy as one of the more successful entertainers of its year. De De Pyaar De had collected Rs 9.11 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs 13.39 crore on Day 2, and a strong Rs 14.74 crore on Day 3, showcasing a steadily rising trajectory.Cut to 2025, the sequel opened to an acceptable but not spectacular Rs 8.75 crore on its first Friday.Saturday witnessed a healthy growth of 40 % to collect Rs 12.25 crore and Sunday saw a further jump of over 12 % to collect Rs 13.75 crore , taking the overall collection ot Rs 34.75 of the first film’s non-premiere weekend figures. Now it all depends on the Monday collection which will decide the direction of the film. The second installment had the added star power of R Madhavan, Meezaan Jaferi, extended role of Jaaved Jaaferi and Gautami Kapoor but didn’t generate the same level of pre-release excitement. The music, promotions, and overall buzz remained comparatively subdued, resulting in a more restrained opening.Ajay’s next release would be Indra Kuamr’s Dhamaal 4 which would see him team up with his old friends Ritiesh Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi , Jaaved Jaaferi and Sanjay Mishra. He is also expected to start Drishyam 3 and Golmaal 5 soon.
