CM Fadnavis says film ‘Nayak’ landed him in trouble; know why

'People think we’re nalayak': CM Devendra Fadnavis says Anil Kapoor's 'Nayak' landed him in trouble

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed at FICCI Frames that Anil Kapoor’s film ‘Nayak’ inspired him but also caused him trouble. He shared how people often compare him to the movie’s protagonist, expecting similar feats in 24 hours, a comparison he once humorously discussed with Kapoor himself.

Maharashtra Cheif Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently attended the 25th edition of FICCI Frames in Mumbai. During the event, which was also attended by Akshay Kumar, CM shared that he was inspired by Anil Kapoor’s 2001 film ‘Nayak’. He also revealed that it also landed him in trouble. Here’s what he said at the event.

At the event, Akshay Kumar asked Devendra Fadnavis if any movie ever inspired him in his political journey. To his question, the Maharashtra CM replied that movies generally don’t shape people as leaders. However, the politician acknowledged the fact that films “influence our emotions and empathy, our human side. There are several films that have impacted me deeply.”Devendra Fadnavis further added, “When it comes to politics, there’s one film I have to mention, ‘Nayak’. It inspired me, yes, but it also brought me a fair share of trouble!”

Devendra Fadnavis shares why the movie brought trouble for him

For the unversed, in the 2001 film, Anil Kapoor played the role of a journalist who turns into the CM of Maharashtra for 24 hours. Citing the film as an example, Devendra Fadnavis said, “Everywhere I go, people say, ‘Be like Nayak! Look how much he did in a single day. He changed the world in 24 hours!'”The real-life CM also shared one episode at the event. He revealed asking Anil Kapoor once about why he made the film ‘Nayak’. He recalled telling the actor, “Now people think you’re the Nayak (hero) and we’re the nalayak (incompetents). How did you manage all that in just one day?”Talking about how movies help him, the CM shared that after watching a film, he becomes “a regular person again—the one I’ve always been, despite the office I hold.”

More about ‘Nayak’

Directed by S. Shankar, the film starred Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, and Amrish Puri in the lead roles. Reportedly, the movie earned around Rs 20.56 crore at the box office.
