Ilaiyaraaja’s studio targeted in hoax bomb email: Security forces conduct search in T. Nagar

In an alarming turn of events, Chennai’s police acted quickly on a bomb threat email sent to the famous music composer Ilaiyaraaja’s studio, concluding it was a hoax. This event is part of a wider pattern, where VIPs and well-known figures in the city have faced similar threats.

A bomb threat email sent to music maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s studio in T. Nagar, Chennai, caused a major security alert on the last day.As reported by The Hindu, the threatening mail, which was also received by the Director General of Police (DGP) office, claimed that an explosive had been planted inside the composer’s studio.According to the reports, the police personnel, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and sniffer dogs, swiftly arrived at the scene. A detailed inspection was conducted.Reports say that after a thorough search, officials confirmed that the threat was a hoax. The scare came as part of a series of similar email threats received by several VIPs and public figures across Chennai in recent weeks.

Police link threat to string of hoax emails in Chennai

The city police revealed that the bomb threat to Ilaiyaraaja’s premises bore resemblance to previous hoax emails sent to several high-profile individuals. Among the targets were AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami, NTK coordinator Seeman, and seven other locations, including homes and offices of political figures.Authorities have intensified efforts to trace the sender. The Cyber Crime and City Police units have launched a detailed investigation to identify the origin of the threat. Notably, in recent days, police have arrested two individuals — Iyappan (36) of Thiruporur for threatening Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s residence and Boopathi (43) of Maduravoyal for similar hoax threats to public places.

Ilaiyaraaja in legal battle

In another story, Ilaiyaraaja continues to make headlines and it’s for his ongoing copyright dispute. Reportedly, the veteran composer has filed a case in the Madras High Court against some popular companies., alleging unauthorized commercial use of his songs.The petition emphasizes that Ilaiyaraaja has composed over 7,500 songs in multiple Indian languages. It also insists that all his works are protected under copyright law. He accused the companies of using and claiming ownership of his music without proper authorization.
