Bobby Deol’s wife Tanya was just 19 when she met his parents

Bobby Deol’s wife Tanya Deol once recalled her first meeting with in-laws Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur: ‘I was all of 19, really quite nervous’

Bobby Deol has lived a real-life love story that could rival any Bollywood film. Since marrying Tanya in 1996, the couple’s journey together has been nothing short of magical. From their very first meeting in Mumbai to heartfelt conversations, secret proposals, and a grand wedding with thousands of guests, their story is a perfect mix of charm, love, and family warmth. Let’s have a look at how it all began.

Tanya once recalled how Bobby first noticed her

In a past interview with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Tanya shared how Bobby first noticed her at Trattoria while she was with her brother and common friends. She said, “Bobby knew one of them. And then we bumped into each other a couple of times at night. I didn’t say hello to him when I saw him because I didn’t know him. I didn’t bother. It didn’t matter.”Even though Tanya did not pay much attention, Bobby’s interest only grew. Their next meeting happened at Chunky Panday’s Diwali party. Tanya recalled, “Bobby came and he sat and played cards at the same table. He kept losing to me but he wouldn’t pay me. He said, ‘I will take you out for a meal.’ I said, ‘What’s wrong with this guy?’”After the party, Bobby called Tanya late at night. She said, “It was some absurd hour at night and I was fast asleep. I picked up the call without knowing who it was and I said, ‘I will call you tomorrow.’”

Tanya shared how they spoke for hours

Tanya didn’t know who called her, so the next day she asked her friends. She said, “The next day, I went and asked all of my friends whether they were the ones who called me and they all said no. He thought I was this snooty girl.”A week later, Bobby tried again, calling at a normal hour. Tanya remembered, “And this time we spoke. And we spoke for like seven to eight hours that night.” After speaking continuously for a week, Tanya realised she was falling in love. She said, “It was like a fairytale. We didn’t even go on a date, we kept attending parties. This one night, he insisted to drop me home and at my door, he asked me to marry him.”

She recalled telling her mother about proposal

Tanya told her mother about Bobby’s proposal as her father was not in town. She recalled, “My mom wanted to meet him. It took them just 15 minutes to vibe and act as it they knew each other for ages.”The instant connection made Tanya feel comfortable about taking the next step in their relationship.

When Tanya met Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur

Tanya shared how nervous she felt meeting Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur at age 19. She said, “I was all of 19–really quite nervous. I was dressed in a salwar-kameez. His parents were really warm and made me feel very comfortable, and at ease. They welcomed me with open arms.”Six months after meeting Bobby’s parents, the couple married in a massive celebration. Tanya said, “Initially, it was Bobby and me and eventually the family took over and we were just sidelined. We had a huge wedding. We had about 10,000 people.”Despite the overwhelming scale, the day marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership rooted in love and family warmth. The couple are also proud parents to two sons, Aryaman and Dharam. Go to Source
