Bobby Deol’s friend was kidnapped by Billa and Ranga

Bobby Deol’s friend was kidnapped by Billa and Ranga; Dharmendra did not allow him to leave house after that: 'Entire family...'

Bobby Deol is currently basking in the love of fans for his role as Ajay Talvar in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’. Since his comeback with the 2023 film ‘Animal’, Deol has regained his lost fame and become a top choice for filmmakers. Just like most of the B’town stars, Bobby is now often seen at film events and parties. But there was a time when his father, veteran actor Dharmendra, did not let him go out. He had to stay at home under very strict rules, much stricter than most children experience.

Bobby Deol’s friend became target of kidnappers

The ‘Gupt’ actor revealed in an interview on Raj Shamani’s podcast that his father refused to let him leave the house because of Ranga and Billa. He said, “When I was in the sixth standard, a friend of mine got kidnapped. But he was the luckiest of all the people they kidnapped. There was a confusion between Billa and Ranga… He was with Ranga, and cops were zeroing in on them. He ran and left my friend at a paan shop. The shopkeeper asked him where he lived, and brought him home.”

Police warned Dharmendra about potential threats

The kidnapping had a direct impact on the ‘Bichhoo’ actor’s life. “They told my father that my friend was safe, but Billa and Ranga asked him who else was there in his school, and he took my name. After that, my father didn’t let me leave the house at all. I returned from school and that was it. I even learned cycling inside my house,” Deol recalled.

Bobby Deol had 9 pm curfew during his college years

Even during college, the ‘Ajnabee’ actor was not allowed to attend parties or go out freely. “In college, when my friends started having house parties, I wasn’t allowed to go. I had a 9 pm curfew. I would go to friends’ houses, help them set up for parties, and leave.”

Parents were extra cautious after childhood accident

Deol also explained that his parents were protective for other reasons. He fell from the first floor of their house as a two-year-old, making them even more cautious. “My entire family had gone to watch one of dad’s films at the Lido cinema. After that, they stopped going there, even when it turned into a PVR. They thought it brought bad luck or something,” he said.

Bobby Deol admits being unprepared for real world

Being so sheltered left Bobby Deol unprepared for life outside home. “It took me a while to get acclimatised to the real world, and in many ways, I was ignorant about how cutthroat it could be. I think they should’ve perhaps not been as strict with me, and prepared me to face life’s challenges by myself.”

Bobby Deol on the work front

Bobby Deol will be next seen in the spy thriller ‘Alpha’, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, which is scheduled to release in December 2025. Go to Source
