‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3: All you need to know

'Big Little Lies' Season 3: All about plot, core elements, and team updates

‘Big Little Lies,’ the star-studded comedy-drama series, is officially in the works for the third season, with a significant change in the production. While the series was intended to be a mini-series, the success made the producers deliver the second season in 2019, and the third season will be hitting the digital screens soon.

The plot of ‘Big Little Lies’ season 3

The first season was inspired by the 2014 novel written by Liane Moriarty, and the second was an original work by the author. As for the third novel, it will be based on the sequel, which is due to be released in 2026. The story will likely have a time jump, and the characters will figure out the California town in a new way. Previously, Nicole Kidman had opened up about Moriaty’s sequel, which was deemed to be too soon, as she couldn’t keep her excitement in. “I got excited. But we are now! We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. Yeah, and we’re in good shape,” she said in a Vanity Fair interview. As for the details of the characters, Reese Witherspoon confirmed five months later that the core elements would be the same, but she was unsure about their children being all grown up, as per E! News.

The updates about the team of ‘Big Little Lies’

Francesca Sloane, the co-creator of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ has taken a lead to write the first episode and executive produce the third season. She will be the executive producer along with David E. Kelley, Nicole Kidman, and Reese Witherspoon, and the latter two would be leading the series, according to Deadline. Sloane has signed a 2-year contract with HBO, following the announcement that the filming of the second season of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ has been indefinitely delayed. Sloane and the production studios were allegedly in a lengthy conversation about the cast and about what her new financial pact would look like. Due to the altercation, Sloane decided to take a look at the market outside, and ended up being interested in the show – leading to a full-blown deal and collaborations. The speculations about the third season of ‘Big Little Lies’ in the works had been charted in 2023, but nothing was confirmed until now. The series saw tremendous success in 2017, where they won Emmys for Best Limited Series, Best Actress in a Limited Series (Nicole Kidman), as well as Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series (Laura Dern), and more.
