Before Avatar: Fire and Ash, here’s what happened in The Way of Water

Before ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ here’s what happened in ‘The Way of Water’- The ending explained!

James Cameron expands Pandora’s saga in ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ releasing December 19. Following ‘The Way of Water,’ Jake, Neytiri, and their family face new dangers as the RDA threat intensifies. Kiri’s mysterious powers and Spider’s moral dilemma deepen the story, promising epic battles and emotional reckonings ahead.

James Cameron took audiences on an unforgettable journey when he introduced the world of Pandora, a stunning alien planet brought to life in ‘Avatar’ (2009). At the heart of the story are Jake Sully and Neytiri, two members of the Na’vi, a species deeply rooted in their connection to nature. What begins as a clash between humans and the Na’vi soon turns into Jake’s personal transformation as he leaves his human form behind to fully embrace life on Pandora. Over a decade later, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ (2022) continues this epic tale, exploring new environments and relationships while setting the stage for what’s to come. Though the sequel ends on a note of anticipation, Cameron has promised that the future films will bring closure to the saga.

The story continues with Fire and Ash

Following the release of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ in 2022, fans won’t have to wait much longer for the next chapter. The third installment of Cameron’s blockbuster saga, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ is set to premiere on December 19. Before diving into this new sci-fi spectacle, let’s revisit how The Way of Water wrapped up and the mysteries it left hanging.

James Cameron’s Cast Exposes Emotional Toll Of Avatar: Fire and Ash

The Sullys on the run

The RDA’s growing presence on Pandora continues to endanger Jake, Neytiri, and the Na’vi. Their family becomes the main target of Colonel Miles Quaritch, who returns in a Na’vi body to hunt them down. In an effort to find safety, Jake and Neytiri take refuge with the oceanic Metkayina clan, joined by their children Neteyam, their eldest; adopted daughter Kiri; and Spider. But tragedy strikes when Neteyam is killed during a deadly fight with Quaritch. With little time to mourn, Jake and Neytiri are forced to stay strong and focus on survival. In the climax, Quaritch comes close to drowning, only for Spider to save him, an act that complicates everything. While Spider remains devoted to the Sullys, Neytiri finds it hard to trust him because of who his father is.

Finding home with the Metkayina

After the war, the Sully family finds a new sense of belonging among the Metkayina. The ocean clan not only shelters Jake and Neytiri but also teaches them how to live and thrive in their waters. With the RDA threat continuing to grow, returning to the Omaticaya clan would only set them back. Choosing to stay, Jake and Neytiri join forces with the Metkayina, building a stronger alliance to face the battles ahead.

Kiri’s mysterious powers

Kiri, the adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri, emerges as one of the most fascinating characters in the story. Born from Dr. Grace Augustine’s Na’vi avatar, the 14-year-old discovers her deep spiritual connection to Pandora. Through Eywa, she can communicate with and even command the planet’s wildlife, hinting at a mysterious power that sets her apart from the rest.

A father’s eternal bond

In the closing moments of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ Jake finds solace in reconnecting with the spirit of his son Neteyam, now one with Eywa. Through the sacred tsaheylu bond, Neteyam’s presence lives on within the Metkayina’s ancestral tree, giving Jake glimpses of his son’s youth and their shared memories. Though Neteyam will never grow up, Jake’s bond with him remains eternal. Elsewhere, Colonel Quaritch, consumed by rage and grief, swears vengeance and sets his sights once again on Jake, hinting at a far more intense clash in the next chapters of the saga.

Spider’s moral crossroads

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ leaves viewers questioning Quaritch’s complicated feelings toward Spider. After the young boy saves his life, there seems to be a glimmer of paternal affection emerging beneath Quaritch’s hardened exterior. Yet, Jake remains unaware of Quaritch’s survival. Torn between his moral beliefs and emotional instincts, Spider defies his father’s cruelty but still can’t abandon him. Whether this inner conflict will lead him toward darkness or loyalty to the Sully family is something only ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ will uncover.

The next chapter arrives soon

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ produced under the banner of 20th Century Studios, will arrive in Indian cinemas on December 19. The highly anticipated sequel will be available in six languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Go to Source
