‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits USD 16.5 million in advance ticket sales

'Avengers: Doomsday' hits USD 16.5 million mark in advance ticket sales, breaks 'Deadpool & Wolverine' record

The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hype is real! The film is already shaping up to be one of the biggest box office hits of the year, within just a day of its trailer launch. The highly anticipated superhero epic has generated an impressive USD 16.5 million in advance ticket sales, Variety reports. The film crossed this milestone after just its first day on sale, despite tickets being available only for premium-format screenings.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ earns USD 16.5 million

According to industry reports, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ earned UD 16.5 million in first-day advance ticket sales from just 1,000 domestic theatres offering premium-format screenings. The figure is particularly significant because tickets were not yet available for standard screenings. When the film opens on December 18, it is expected to play in more than 4,000 theatres across North America, substantially expanding its footprint.Studio insiders also report that premium-format screenings on Thursday, December 17, and Friday, December 18, have already ‘sold out’ in many locations.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ outpace ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

The film’s opening-day pre-sales have already surpassed another recent Marvel blockbuster. According to reports, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ first-day ticket sales are twice as high as those of 2024’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, even though it had a wide release across all formats and screens. The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer went on to score a box office debut with a total collection of USD 211 million domestically before finishing its theatrical run with more than USD 1.3 billion worldwide. The film also went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ to have no IMAX release

Interestingly, the early pre-sales do not include IMAX tickets. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will not play in IMAX during its opening weeks because Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’ has secured exclusive access to IMAX screens for three weeks following its release on the same day.

A historic ‘Doomday’ vs ‘Dune’ showdown

The clash between ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Dune: Part Three’ has already been dubbed “Dunesday” by Robert Downey Jr and several other MCU fans. Industry analysts note that the two films combine to deliver one of the biggest box office weekends in history, with both films expected to draw massive audiences over the Christmas holiday corridor.

Can ‘Doomsday’ match the ‘Endgame?

While ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is off to a good start at the box office, it remains to be seen if the film has what it takes to beat the records set by 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which remains one of the highest-earning films at the box office. The film had opened to a record-breaking USD 357 million in North America and USD 1.2 billion globally during its opening weekend before finishing its run with USD 2.7 billion worldwide. The film still stands as the second-highest-grossing film of all time.Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is the first part of Marvel Studios’ two-film conclusion of the Multiverse Saga which also features ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
