Rajinikanth’s 173rd film, ‘Dharman,’ has created strong curiosity among fans, particularly regarding the superstar’s character. The film officially went on floors with a launch event held on Wednesday andthe makers also shared a new poster featuring Rajinikanth in a stylish appearance, holding a surgery knife in his hands, with blood all over it.

Director describes ‘Dharman’ as family-oriented thriller

Director Ashwath Marimuthu clarified the basic structure of the film during the launch event. He described Dharman as a family-focused thriller that carries strong entertainment elements.As reported by India Today, he also dismissed early speculation suggesting the film would be based on the “5 Rupees Doctor” concept. Instead, he indicated that the story is built around a larger-than-life character placed in a commercial cinematic setup.

Blend of mass appeal and investigative style

Ashwath further explained that ‘Dharman’ will combine mass storytelling with elements of investigative drama. He compared the tone of the film to two well-known Tamil films.The film is expected to feature a strong hero-driven storyline while also mixing thriller-based sequences.According to the director, Rajinikanth is not playing a character based on the widely discussed “5 Rupees Doctor” real-life inspiration.

‘Dharman’ director on first meet with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan

During the launch event, Ashwath also spoke about his interaction with Rajinikanth and the collaborative nature of the project. He shared insights into the actor’s approach and enthusiasm.He said, “KamalHaasan sir said ‘I am a Rajini sir fan, Rajini padam pannunga’. When I met #Rajinikanth sir he said ‘we should win at any cost, we are doing it with RKFI. Consider me as your assistant, I will be telling my suggestion for #Dharman, you can take it or ignore’. Rajinikanth sir is still working like a new come.”The director also shared a social media update following the first look reveal, writing, “Dr Swag will set the screens on fireePoombarai Murugan Thunai .” Music composer Anirudh Ravichander added to the excitement with his reaction online, posting, “#Dharman Lesssgooo Thalaivar Superstar @rajinikanth in an @Dir_Ashwath directorial This combo is gonna be lit.”The film also features Simran and Raashi Khanna in key roles.
