Ashley Park recalls croissant scene in ‘Emily in Paris’

‘Emily in Paris’: Ashley Park shares ‘will never forget’ croissant scene with Lily Collins in the show

Ashley Park has a lot of fond memories from filming ‘Emily in Paris’, but one moment in particular stands out above the rest. The season 5 fight scene in which her character Mindy Chen hurls croissants at on-screen best friend Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, is not something she will be forgetting any time soon.At PaleyFest LA 2026, Park opened up exclusively to People about the fight. “I will never forget the imprint of croissant crumbs on her face,” she said, and what made it so memorable goes well beyond just the baked goods.

What Ashley Park said about filming the croissant scene

“Oh my gosh. Well, that was actually interesting, because we always say that so much of our characters is inspired very much by our own friendship. Like, we’ve never had a fight like that. We’ve never had a conversation like that. We communicate very well, and we’re like, ‘Oh, I guess this is the time where our characters can kind of learn this lesson,'” Park, 34, said.On the practicalities of the scene, she explained, “Croissants are very light, so in order to aim it properly, you have to really chuck it hard. And so I was not aiming it correctly so well. I think the take that they use, I really chucked it at her.” She added, “And to do that to her friend, we had to stop. I was like, ‘Are you okay?'”Park also revealed that before filming the scene, she and Collins “were almost resistant to that storyline and the tiff between them, but we really grew to be excited about it, because I think that having altercations or conflict with people that you care about, and being able to communicate through it, only makes you stronger.”

The unexpected extra detail that made the day even more memorable

There was an additional layer to the already eventful shoot. Both Park and Collins had family visiting Paris for the first time that day, with their parents on set as the croissant scene was being filmed.”What was difficult, what was interesting, is that actually that scene with the croissant was the first time our parents ever visited Paris, and so they were on set with us that day. So that was already fun. But I mean, we were laughing so hard,” Park told the outlet. The distractions did not end there. “We were filming along this end, there were boats going by, shouting our names, with people on it, tourists,” she said, before adding, “I think they actually used that take in it.”

What Lily Collins said about filming with Ashley Park

Collins also shared her own memories of filming with Park, telling the outlet at the season 5 premiere that one scene in particular reduced both of them to tears of laughter. “One of my most fun moments was shooting the scene with Ashley where we have our face masks on, and we couldn’t stop laughing, we were crying,” she said, adding, “It’s always fun with Ashley.”Collins also reflected on filming in Venice. “Going to Venice was epic, you know, I’ve never been to Venice, so shooting with Ashley in the streets of Venice was really magical,” she said.
