Anil Kapoor recalls the madness as ‘Biwi No. 1’ turns 27

Anil Kapoor recalls the madness as ‘Biwi No. 1’ turns 27: 'It gave me a friendship with Salman that only grew stronger'

The iconic comedy classic ‘Biwi No. 1’ recently completed 27 years since its release, and actor Anil Kapoor marked the occasion with a nostalgic note recalling his memories from the film. Though he appeared in a supporting role, the actor revealed that the project remains extremely close to his heart even today. Sharing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter) Anil Kapoor opened up about the film’s success, his bond with Salman Khan and the unforgettable moments that unfolded behind the scenes.

Anil Kapoor recalls his bond with Salman Khan

Reflecting on the experience of working on ‘Biwi No. 1’, Anil Kapoor revealed that the film strengthened his friendship with Salman Khan over the years. He wrote, “Some films feel special, even as you’re making them. ‘Biwi No. 1’ was truly one such film. A role that was originally portrayed by Kamal Haasan, it gave me a season full of awards, a friendship with Salman that only grew stronger, and Tabu!”The actor also mentioned that both his collaborations with Tabu turned out to be blockbuster successes and continue to enjoy love from audiences decades later. Speaking further about his equation with Tabu, Anil Kapoor added, “Two films together, two blockbusters, both still living rent-free in people’s hearts even after 27 years… That’s pretty precious in my books!” The chemistry and comic timing of the cast remain one of the reasons why ‘Biwi No. 1’ is still remembered as one of David Dhawan’s most entertaining films.

The story behind ‘Hai Hai Mirchi’ song

Apart from revisiting the film’s memories, Anil Kapoor also shared an interesting anecdote related to one of its most popular songs, ‘Hai Hai Mirchi’. According to the actor, singer-composer Sukhwinder Singh came up with the track spontaneously during a flight. Recalling the moment, Anil wrote, “And then there was Sukhwinder Singh, who created ‘Hai Hai Mirchi’ spontaneously during a flight. That’s the kind of magic this film was made of.”Why ‘Biwi No. 1’ is back in headlinesEven after nearly three decades, ‘Biwi No. 1’ has once again become a talking point because of David Dhawan’s upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’. The filmmaker has recreated songs like ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ and ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ for the new project. The recreated version of ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ was released recently, but it received mixed reactions from audiences online. At the same time, reports of an alleged copyright and intellectual property dispute between Tips Films and producer Vashu Bhagnani have also grabbed attention.Meanwhile, the trailer of ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ has already sparked curiosity among moviegoers, with fans now waiting to see whether the film can recreate the charm of classic David Dhawan entertainers.
