All about ‘Scary Movie 6’

From Republican jokes to M3GAN returning to the big screen: Scary Movie 6 is back with another quirky ensemble

The Scary Movie franchise is making a comeback with its sixth instalment, years after the release of the fifth film. This time around, while some familiar faces are reuniting for the project, the tropes and humour are being updated to reflect current pop culture trends. From Republican jokes to pronoun humour, here’s everything Scary Movie 6 is taking on with its signature horror-comedy style.

New social concepts in Scary Movie 6

From making Republican jokes in the trailer to poking fun at ‘they/them’ pronouns, Scary Movie 6 is leaning heavily into contemporary social commentary while maintaining the franchise’s trademark parody format. The film marks the first instalment in the franchise in 13 years. It also reunites the Wayans brothers behind the scenes once again. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Craig Wayans — who helped create the franchise — are all returning to work on the film. The trailer also shows Wednesday being hilariously transformed into “Tuesday,” while M3GAN returns in the exaggerated, gimmicky style that the franchise is known for. The film additionally pays homage to horror classics like Halloween and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, with iconic masks and horror imagery appearing right at the beginning of the trailer. One of the most talked-about references in the film is to Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, which became one of the biggest breakout hits of the recent awards season.

Anna Faris and Regina Hall on returning to the franchise

Veteran actresses Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who have been associated with the franchise since the very first film, are also returning for the latest instalment. In a recent interview, Hall opened up about stepping back into the role of Regina Meeks. Speaking to Variety, she said, “I read the script — and it was really funny. I knew what they were intending to do. I always think a work of art is in flux until it’s done and in someone’s hands — you just never know. But the original cast coming back was exciting. Having the Wayans involved again, and Anna Faris too.”Meanwhile, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Faris shared how emotional the reunion felt for her. “To come back after all these years in this way has made me cry with gratitude. I hadn’t seen the Wayans brothers since the end of Scary Movie 2. All those years have passed, and I didn’t want to be one of those actors that never honored their roots,” she said.

Cast of Scary Movie 6

The film also stars Lochlyn Munro as Greg Phillippe, Dave Sheridan as Doofy Gilmore, and Jon Abrahams as Bobby Prinze.Marlon Wayans reprises his role as Shorty Meeks, while Shawn Wayans returns as Ray Wilkins. Hall and Faris have also already shared glimpses of their return to the franchise on social media. Go to Source
