Akshay Kumar on why ‘every stunt is a lot more’

'I have to be very careful when I do my stunts': Akshay Kumar on why 'every stunt is a lot more' and secret to his discipline

Akshay Kumar’s journey in Hindi cinema is unlike most others. Over three decades, he has effortlessly switched between action, comedy, drama, and social entertainers, never slowing down and always staying relevant. But before he became the box office force and action icon audiences know today, there were several quiet but defining moments that slowly shaped the star he would eventually become.

Akshay Kumar on why every stunt still feels risky

In a conversation with Variety India, Akshay opened up about the moments that have stayed with him through his long career, from hair-raising stunts and early bonds of friendship to the discipline that became the backbone of everything he does. Famous for pushing his physical limits on screen, the actor admits that no stunt ever feels routine or safe. “I have performed many stunts and even (for) a smaller stunt I think there was a lot more. So you know I have to be very careful when I do my stunts. For me, every stunt is a lot more,” he shared.

Akshay Kumar’s first big purchase and his unique approach to scripts

After making it big with action films in the 1990s, Akshay reveals that his first major purchase was close to his heart. Without hesitation, he says, “My flat.” The actor also shares that his approach to scripts has always been a little different from most. While many actors sit down with bound screenplays, Akshay prefers to have stories told to him out loud. “Well, I have always not read my script. I always actually hope somebody reads it for me. And I always love to hear the script till the interval and the next day again from the interval. I just want to see whether I remember it or not,” he explains. And when it comes to getting truly honest feedback on his work, Akshay doesn’t look far. He simply answers, “My niece,” when asked who he trusts the most for a straight and genuine opinion.

Akshay Kumar on his first Bollywood friendship, hit song, and life mantra

When asked about the first co-star he truly connected with in his early days in the industry, Akshay doesn’t think twice before naming Saif Ali Khan. Music has also played a big role in shaping his filmography, and when asked about the first song of his that swept the nation, he points to ‘Vada Raha Sanam’ from the 1992 film ‘Khiladi’. Even after decades of success and countless milestones, one thing has never changed for Akshay, his belief in discipline. “It’s not a secret, but I would say the most important thing for me is discipline,” he says. He wraps up the conversation on a note of faith and positivity, something he has always worn on his sleeve. His mantra, simple yet powerful: “Believing in God is living life with confidence.”

Akshay Kumar’s upcoming films in 2026

On the work front, Akshay Kumar has a busy year ahead with a strong lineup of films. He is currently filming an untitled project with director Anees Bazmee, while also gearing up for the release of ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, directed by Ahmed Khan, which is set to hit cinemas on June 26, 2026. Adding to the excitement, Akshay will also be seen alongside Saif Ali Khan in ‘Haiwaan’, which is expected to release later in 2026. Go to Source
