Ajey collects just Rs 20 lakh on day 1

‘Ajey: The Untold Story of Yogi’ based on life of Yogi Adityanath collects just Rs 20 lakh on day 1

Following Unni Mukandan’s announcement of ‘Maa Vande,’ a film on Narendra Modi, a trend of political biopics continues. However, recent releases like ‘Ajey: The Untold Story of Yogi’ are struggling at the box office, earning only Rs 20 lakh on its opening day. The film faces tough competition from Akshay Kumar’s ‘Jolly LLB 3’.

Just a few days ago actor Unni Mukandan best known for 2024’s hit film Marco announced his next film Maa Vande , chronicling the life of India PM Minister Narendra Modi. In the recent years there has been a surge in films being made on politician be it Vivek Oberoi’s PM Narendra Modi, or Akshaye Khanna and Anupam Kher’s The Accidental Prime Minister based on former PM Manmohan Singh or Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency on the life of Indira Gandhi or Thalaivi based on J Jayalalithaa. Despite the popularity of leading politicians and leaders of the country, films based on them have struggled at the box office. The latest attempt being Ajey: The Untold Story of Yogi based on the book by Shantanu Gupta, titled The Monk Who Became Chief Minister. The book is Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath’s biography. The film stars Anant Joshi as the Yogi Adityanath while veteran actor Paresh Rawal plays his mentor Mahant Adityanath. As per Sacnilk the film has collected just Rs 20 lakh from it’s first day of release. The film was earlier supposed to release in the month of August but due to issues with the censor board, the film was delayed and ended up clashing with Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s Jolly LLB 3 and Anurag Kashyap’s Nischaanchi. Between the three films , it is Akshay’s film which is leading the race with Rs 12.50 crore day 1 collection. The journey for the film from hereon looks like an uphill task and will need some serious luck to change it’s fortune.
