Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam 3’ Hindi version WILL NOT follow Mohanlal’s film

Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Drishyam 3’ Hindi version WILL NOT completely follow Mohanlal’s Malayalam film, reveal makers

With excitement building around Mohanlal’s upcoming ‘Drishyam 3’, producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak have now spoken about how Ajay Devgn’s Hindi adaptation will differ from the Malayalam original. The makers also discussed their growing involvement in Malayalam cinema and why they believe regional storytelling has a wider global appeal today.Producer Kumar Mangat Pathak revealed that the team’s interest in Malayalam films began during the lockdown period. According to him, binge-watching movies from the industry made them realise how unique and content-driven Malayalam cinema had become. Speaking to ANI, he shared, “When the lockdown started, we watched a lot of Malayalam films. We realised that the content there is very good. Different types of films are being made and appreciated there.”He further explained that the production house spent nearly one and a half years studying the industry before officially stepping into Malayalam cinema. “After that, our entire team sat together and carried out research for one and a half years. We met people and writers. Then we planned everything and presented Panorama,” Kumar Mangat said. He also credited Mohanlal, Antony Perumbavoor and producer Jacob for helping the collaboration take shape. The producer added that Panorama Studios already has multiple Malayalam projects in the pipeline besides ‘Drishyam 3’.

Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam 3’ expected on October 2

Abhishek Pathak also gave an update regarding the Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn. He revealed that the makers are eyeing an October 2 release date, which has become strongly associated with the franchise over the years. “‘Drishyam 3’ will be released on October 2. It is Drishyam Day, a date associated with the film. I think the Hindi version of the film will be released on that date. We are currently preparing for it. It is in post-production,” he said. The date has become iconic among fans of the franchise because of its recurring importance in the story.

Why the Hindi version will feel different

While both versions begin from the same narrative point where ‘Drishyam 2’ concluded, Abhishek Pathak revealed that the Hindi adaptation will feature several modifications in terms of screenplay and storytelling style. “You will understand the difference only when you watch the Hindi trailer,” he said while hinting at noticeable changes.Explaining further, Abhishek added, “The Malayalam version is more of a family drama. As Jeethu Joseph told us during the launch, the story is very good for the Malayalam audience, and they will like it.” However, the makers believe Hindi audiences prefer a different cinematic treatment.“Our Hindi audience has a different taste and palate. We made changes in ‘Drishyam 2’ as well, and the audience appreciated them. We have also made changes to the story and screenplay for this instalment, and the audience will notice the difference,” he explained.

The legacy of ‘Drishyam’ franchise

The ‘Drishyam’ franchise revolves around Georgekutty and his family, whose lives spiral into chaos after the disappearance of a senior police officer’s son. The first Malayalam film released in 2013 and became a massive success for its gripping suspense and layered storytelling. Its sequel, ‘Drishyam 2’, arrived in 2021 and received similar praise from audiences and critics alike. The popularity of the franchise eventually led to remakes in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and several other languages. Ajay Devgn headlined the Hindi adaptations, while Mohanlal continued to lead the original Malayalam versions.Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 3’ is set for a worldwide theatrical release on May 21.
