‘Kala Hiran’ controversy: Actor Sonu Mishra quits film; says, ‘It had been made to TARNISH the name of Salman Khan’

Actor Sonu Mishra has publicly walked away from the controversial film ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy,’ stating that he quit after realising the project aimed at damaging a senior actor’s image. His statement comes as Salman Khan continues his legal fight in the Delhi High Court to halt the film’s filming, promotion, and release, with the next hearing scheduled for July 1.

Why did Sonu Mishra quit ‘Kala Hiran’?

Speaking to ANI, Sonu Mishra revealed that he was initially cast to portray Salman Khan’s character, believing the film would present a favourable narrative. However, his perspective changed after he understood the project’s true intent. He said, “I was supposed to portray the character of Salman Khan. When I realised that the film had been made to tarnish the name of a superstar and the reputation of Rajasthan’s culture, my ethics didn’t allow me to be a part of the propaganda against a senior actor. Following creative differences with makers, I decided to distance myself from the film.”Mishra further claimed that the makers never shared the script with him. Regarding alleged threats from the Bishnoi community, he was categorical, saying there was “no question” of receiving any such threats, adding that it is his own community. He said films that highlight the community’s contributions to society would be more meaningful and that the legal dispute should be left to the judiciary.

What is Salman Khan’s legal case about?

‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’ is reportedly inspired by the 1998 blackbuck poaching case linked to Salman Khan. The actor has approached the Delhi High Court seeking an interim injunction against the film, arguing that the filmmakers are commercially exploiting his identity without consent, violating his personality and publicity rights while harming his reputation.During a previous hearing, Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing for Salman Khan, argued that the filmmakers had no right to make a film based on the actor’s life without his permission. The filmmakers opposed the plea and sought additional time to respond, stating they had received legal documents only recently.

When is the next hearing?

The Delhi High Court has listed the matter for July 1 before the roster bench. With Sonu Mishra publicly distancing himself from the project and Salman Khan’s legal challenge still pending, the fate of ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’ now rests firmly in the hands of the court.Disclaimer: This report is based on allegations and publicly available information.
