Abhishek Bachchan backs Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’

Abhishek Bachchan backs Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’, says it can outshine any film

Abhishek Bachchan said Bollywood shouldn’t copy foreign industries, stressing faith in Indian storytelling. He noted India’s unmatched movie scale and audience reach while praising Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar. He added that Indian cinema doesn’t need a “Squid Game” moment to prove its global power.

Abhishek Bachchan said that Bollywood doesn’t need to copy or compete with other film industries. As people often compare Indian movies to global hits like Korean dramas, he shared his faith in local cinema during an event. He also supported Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ and asked why viewers keep looking for foreign standards in Indian films.

Abhishek Bachchan highlights India’s dominance in global cinema

The actor proudly highlighted India’s strong position in global entertainment, reminding everyone that the country leads the world when it comes to film production and audience size. At the ET NOW Global Business Summit 2026, he said, “Our numbers are just so large that I think it’s erroneous for us to say, ‘Oh, when are we gonna create our Squid Game? We make Dhurandhar. Look at the numbers. Look at the amount of tickets sold. That’s gonna outshine any other show, any other movie. So it’s a matter of numbers’.”

Abhishek Bachchan compares Korean content with India’s film scale

He acknowledged the growing influence of Korean dramas and films worldwide but emphasized that the scale of India’s cinema industry remains unmatched. Appreciating their creativity, he remarked that the Korean industry does “amazing work,” yet added, “What is their viewership? What are those numbers? They’ll pale in comparison to Indians going to movies. So we have the numbers already, so what kind of numbers are you trying to achieve to become that fad? I don’t think we want to be a fad.”

Abhishek Bachchan praises Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ and its sequel

Ranveer Singh’s film ‘Dhurandhar’ was released in theatres on December 5. Directed by Aditya Dhar, it also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi. The movie is produced by B62 Studios and Jio Studios. Work on ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has already started, and the sequel will hit theatres on March 19. Recently, behind-the-scenes clips from the Mumbai sets showing Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt in a serious scene have created a lot of buzz. Reports say the new part will focus on Hamza Mazhari’s revenge and reveal who the mysterious ‘Bade Sahab’ really is, a character many think is based on gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
