Abhay Deol shares reason for not having children

Abhay Deol shares reason for not having children: ‘I might turn more controlling and possessive than I really am’

Abhay Deol recently engaged in a candid conversation with Dr Jai Madaan during his signature analysis, where the subject of marriage and children naturally came up. Known for his unconventional views, the actor did not shy away from admitting that parenthood isn’t part of his life plan.“I don’t want to have children. If I was to settle down, then I would adopt over having my own. Because, I don’t know, I just look at the world and I’m like, why would I bring a child into this planet?” he said.

‘The planet can’t be burdened further’

When asked if he wasn’t happy on this planet himself, Abhay responded with clarity. “I am,” he said, before explaining further. “But the planet can’t be burdened with such an exploding population. To try and avoid adding more to what is already too much, it’s that. I also don’t want children. On top of that, even if I did want, I look at the world and I’m like, why would I bring a real life child into this world?”

‘I don’t know if I’ll do justice’

Abhay also reflected on the emotional responsibility of being a parent. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to do justice or not. How will I be able to manage our emotions? I don’t know how I’ll feel. Will I be able to, you know, create a… Well, I do find that I might be more controlling and possessive than I actually am if I had a child. I might be. Yeah, maybe,” he admitted.Protectiveness, he said, is something he grew up with in his own family, and he fears he may pass on the same intensity. “It’s a tough situation to handle yourself. Yeah, like I might lose my sense of easygoing, free and relaxed to always on edge, protective, possessive. So, I think we were very protected growing up. I might reflect that on my own child,” Abhay concluded.
