Actor Adil Hussain expressed regret over his role in the commercially successful but controversial film ‘Kabir Singh’. He admitted to not reading the full script or watching the original before signing, a decision he now questions after witnessing the movie’s portrayal of toxic masculinity.
The Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Kabir Singh’ was released in 2019, and though years have passed, it remains a topic of discussion. The movie was a huge commercial success, but it received mixed reviews for the portrayal of toxic masculinity and misogyny. Recently, Adil Hussain, who was seen in a supporting role in the movie, shared his views on the film and confessed that he regrets doing ‘Kabir Singh’
Adil Hussain didn’t read the whole script of ‘Kabir Singh’
While speaking to Mid-Day, Adil Hussain revealed he didn’t read the complete script before signing, nor did he see ‘Arjun Reddy,’ (the Tamil version on which ‘Kabir Singh’ was made).“I was traveling extensively with Mukti Bhawan then and didn’t have the time to go through the full script or watch the original Telugu version,” he said.The ‘English Vinglish’ star also shared that initially, he tried to decline the offer. He asked his manager to quote five times his usual fee. However, there was one scene in particular that he felt was brilliantly written, and thus, he said yes to the movie. But as the movie got released, the actor’s perspective changed.
Adil Hussain’s female friends expressed disappointment
Speaking about the film, Adil mentioned he found it ‘misogynistic.’ “When I saw the film, I thought, ‘What have I done?’” Hussain said. The actor said that as an artist, it was his responsibility to decline the offer for such a movie. He even mentioned his female friends also disapproved of the film.“It’s not about what Sandeep Reddy Vanga has done; it’s my responsibility. I could have said no. Several women friends expressed disappointment. It was important for me to say I regret doing that film,” he quoted.
