‘Aabeer Gulaal’: The film to skip India release

'Aabeer Gulaal': Fawad Khan-Vaani Kapoor film to skip India release; gets NEW premiere date after missing August release

After months of anticipation, Fawad Khan’s Bollywood film ‘Aabeer Gulaal’ has finally found its release date. Directed by Aarti S Bagdi and co-starring Vaani Kapoor, the film that marks the Pakistani star’s return to Bollywood, will premiere across 75 countries on September 12, 2025. However, it is rumoured to skip its India release. The announcement was accompanied by the film’s official trailer, which immediately set social media buzzing with excitement from fans eager to see the heartthrob back on the big screen.

Why India misses out

Initially, ‘Aabeer Gulaal’ was slated to hit Indian theatres on May 9, 2025. However, the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, prompted the government to ban film with Pak talent. In the weeks that followed, calls for boycotting Pakistani talent intensified. The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) openly opposed the release, making it nearly impossible for distributors to move forward in India.Amidst this backlash, the makers pulled down the film’s trailer from YouTube India and postponed the release to August 29. However, the film somehow, even missed the August release, prompting the makers to pick September 12 as their release date. Watch trailerDirected by Aarti S Bagdi, the film promises a heartfelt romantic drama that pairs Fawad and Vaani for the first time. Fawad has been away from Bollywood for nearly a decade after starring in Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. ‘Aabeer Gulaal’ was set to mark his comeback.

International buzz for builds for the Vaani Kapoor starrer

Despite the film skipping plans to release in India, ‘Aabeer Gulaal’ is already generating significant international chatter. The film is scheduled to release simultaneously in countries across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. The makers are hopeful the film can replicate the overseas success seen by other projects that faced similar hurdles with their India release. Go to Source
