‘A House of Dynamite’ ending explained: Will there be a sequel?

‘A House of Dynamite’ ending explained: Will there be a sequel to Noah Oppenheim’s political thriller? Here’s what we know

Starring Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, and others, ‘A House of Dynamite’ is an American political thriller that has been attracting headlines right from the word go. Released on OTT a couple of days ago, the intense drama has been directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Noah Oppenheim. It has caught the attention for its tightly packed plot, stellar performances, and an ending that left everyone wondering, ‘but what’s next?’ So, let’s dive in and take a brief look at the plot of ‘A House of Dynamite,’ its ending, and the possibility of a sequel.

‘A House of Dynamite’: The plot

‘A House of Dynamite’ opens with the hope of a new normal day, which only turns darker as it progresses. It shows Captain Olivia Walker, a top-duty officer in the White House Situation Room, learning that a nuclear missile has been launched toward Chicago. The weight is now on her shoulders to act quickly and wisely, or else Chicago will turn into ruins.Meanwhile, at a missile-defense base in Alaska, Major Daniel Gonzalez, with his team, is trying his best to shoot down the missile. However, his attempt, which anyway had only a 50 percent chance of working, turns unsuccessful, making the Secretary of Defense, Reid Baker, lose his calm. This entire situation leaves the President of the US with only two options, both drastic and offered by the two powerful advisors, General Anthony Brady and Jake Baerington. The former urges him to retaliate, while ‘Jake’, and the latter, requests him to wait for proof before taking any action.

‘A House of Dynamite’ ending explained

The makers gave an open-ended ending to the movie. The end gets really intense with the missile set to hit Chicago. The President of the US stands at cross crossroads; he has to decide between retaliating or holding back, knowing that whatever he chooses will have a permanent consequence with which not only he but the entire city will have to live.Amid all this, the Secretary of Defense also finds himself in a tough spot, as his daughter Caroline Baker is also in Chicago, which can turn into dust within the blink of an eye.

‘A House of Dynamite’: Will there be a sequel? Here’s what we know

Though there hasn’t been any confirmation or official announcement about the sequel to the show, fans are expecting and rooting for a part two. Usually, a show left on a cliffhanger hints at the next installment, but it can’t be confirmed unless the makers give a concrete reply. However, the writer of the show, Noah Oppenheimin, in conversation with RadioTimes.com, mentioned the reason behind the opening ending, it was to keep the audience glued to the edge of their seats. “We chose the ending we did because Kathryn and I both believed that any other ending would let the audience off the hook. We don’t want to give the audience a neat, clean resolution. Any ending where the world is saved or the world is destroyed allows people to kind of walk out of the experience and say, ‘Okay, well, that’s that…. It ended that way, and it’s over, and I can go back to my everyday life,'” mentioned the writer.Watch the political thriller on Netflix. Go to Source
