3 Idiots sequel: Rajkumar reveals Rancho, Farhan, Raju are now dealing with mid-life crisis

‘3 Idiots’ sequel update: Rajkumar Hirani reveals Rancho, Farhan and Raju are now dealing with mid-life crisis: 'What happens 15 - 20 years later'

Rajkumar Hirani confirmed that the ‘3 Idiots’ sequel is still in the scripting stage and will focus on Rancho, Farhan and Raju dealing with mid-life crisis, 15-20 years later. Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan are expected to reprise their roles.

Rajkumar Hirani, who directed the beloved 3 Idiots 16 years ago, has now shared an update on its sequel. The filmmaker said that he and his writer Abhijat Joshi are still working on the script, which will show what Rancho, Farhan and Raju are up to today. In the 2009 film, Rancho, played by Aamir Khan, had settled in Ladakh as a teacher, Farhan, played by R Madhavan, had become a wildlife photographer, and Raju, played by Sharman Joshi, had settled well in his career.

Rajkumar Hirani on ‘3 Idiots’ sequel

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Rajkumar gave an update on the sequel and said it will not be about college at all. “I’m still working on that script. There is a lot of work left. It’s primarily about what happens to these characters 15-20 years later. It’s not about college or anything. They are married and have children now. They are experiencing mid-life crisis, and so we will have to see, now what next?” he said. The original film was loved by audiences for its take on India’s education system and its message about following one’s passion. Its famous dialogue “All is well” became one of the most remembered lines in Hindi cinema. When asked if the sequel would also have a message, Hirani laughed and said, “Of course. A big one!”.
