‘Maar nahi dalna tha’: The shocking chats of the Class 8 Gujarat student who killed his school senior

In a gruesome crime inside a private school in Ahmedabad, a Class 10 student was stabbed to death by his junior from Class 8 after a heated argument turned violent earlier this week.

What makes the case even more disturbing is that the teen accused, showing little remorse, confessed to the killing in an Instagram chat with a friend. In the messages, he openly admitted to the murder and explained what drove him to attack his senior with a knife.

The tragedy has sparked anger and grief across the city. Family members and relatives of the victim staged protests at the school, demanding justice and holding the institution accountable for the incident.

Here’s a closer look at what the chats revealed, how the incident unfolded, and the outrage that has since put the school under the scanner.

The shocking chat

Soon after the crime, screenshots of the Instagram conversation between the accused and his friend surfaced. In the chilling exchange, the accused confessed to stabbing his senior and described the chain of events that led to the killing.

Friend: Bhai tumne kuch kiya aj? (Brother, did you do something today?)

Accused: Haan. (Yes.)

Friend: Bhai tumne chaku mara tha? (Brother, did you stab someone?)

Accused: Teko kisne bola (Who told you?)

Accused: Nahi nahi (No, no.)

Accused: Hainnn. Kon tha wese? (What? Who was he?)

Friend: Abe chaku tune mara tha? Vo puch raha hu. (I am asking if you stabbed him.)

Accused: Haan to. (Yes.)

In another message, the accused writes, “To bolde ki ***** ne mara (Tell that I stabbed him).”

When the friend asks why he stabbed his senior, the boy claims he had dared him: “Arey meko bolra tha ki kon hain kya karlega tu (He told me – who are you? What will you do?)”

“***** You can’t stab someone to death for this”, the friend replies. “Mar deta. Maar nahi dalna tha. (You could have hit him. Why kill him!)”

But the accused showed little remorse. “Chord na. Ab jo hogaya vo hogaya.” (Let it be. What has happened has happened.)

Friend: Take care of yourself. Go underground for some time. Delete these chats.

Accused: Ok.

How the incident unfolded

On Tuesday afternoon (August 19), 15-year-old Nayan, a Class 10 student, was heading home after the school bell rang. But just as he stepped out of the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Ahmedabad’s Khokhra, he was confronted by a group of boys, including a Class 8 junior, NDTV reported.

What started as a heated argument quickly turned violent. In the scuffle, the younger boy pulled out a knife and stabbed Nayan in the stomach before fleeing the spot.

CCTV footage later showed the Class 10 student staggering back into the school premises, clutching his wound. Witnesses alleged he lay unattended for nearly half an hour before being taken to a private hospital, where he later died.

Meanwhile, the accused Class 8 boy tried to hide behind the school building but was noticed by a security guard, who immediately alerted the school staff and police. He has since been detained under the Juvenile Justice Act, and an FIR has been filed.

As for the motive, there are conflicting accounts. One version claims the fight erupted after the accused allegedly pressured Nayan to eat non-vegetarian food. Another suggests it was linked to harassment involving a relative of the victim. Police are still investigating the exact chain of events.

Protest erupts, school under probe

The murder of the Class 10 student triggered a wave of anger and grief outside the school. Soon after his body was handed over to the family, relatives and locals gathered in large numbers at the school gates, demanding answers.

On Wednesday afternoon, the boy’s family carried his body in a procession and placed it outside the school before proceeding with the last rites later in the day.

Speaking to reporters, his father said, “I’m not aware of any previous altercation. If there was one, my son would have told me. I request the Gujarat police and government to support us and give us justice.”

What began as a family-led protest soon escalated. Members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal joined in, with anger flaring over the fact that the accused and the victim allegedly belonged to different communities, reported The Indian Express.

Tempers boiled over as protesters stormed the school, assaulting teachers and the principal and vandalising property before police could intervene.

By afternoon, senior police officials and local politicians arrived at the spot to pacify the crowd. The protest only calmed after assurances were given that the case would be investigated by the Crime Branch.

JCP (Crime) Sharad Singhal told The Indian Express, “The protesters demanded a Crime Branch investigation, and the Commissioner has handed the case to the Crime Branch. We are checking CCTV footage of the crime scene to verify if there has been any destruction of evidence. While the primary accused juvenile was detained yesterday, another juvenile is also being questioned.”

Meanwhile, the District Education Officer (city), Rohit Chaudhary, issued a notice to the school management, seeking a detailed explanation.

“The school has been asked to clarify how this incident unfolded, where the security staff were positioned, and why no immediate action was taken. If the attack happened outside, how did the blood-soaked victim return inside the premises without prompt assistance from the management?” he told the news outlet.

The probe into the school’s role is now underway, with officials indicating that accountability will be fixed for lapses in response and security.
