At the handover ceremony of the CGGS Presidency, the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard underscored the Summit’s importance as a key platform for international Coast Guard collaboration in tackling common maritime challenges.

Where will the next CGGS Summit be hosted?

Director General Sivamani said that the fifth CGGS Summit will be held in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai in 2027. The event will coincide with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Coast Guard.

The summit will be held for three days and will feature an International Coast Guard Fleet Review and a World Coast Guard Seminar. The programs will give a platform to delegates to showcase maritime unity and encourage dialogue on emerging challenges.

“He emphasised that no single nation can address the full spectrum of maritime challenges alone, and that the 5th CGGS in Chennai will serve as an inclusive forum to foster interoperability, trust, and stronger global cooperation,” a press release by the IGC said.

What happened at the 4th CGGS Summit?

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard met with the Commandant of the Italian Coast Guard to advance bilateral maritime cooperation. The discussions, held in line with the Defence Cooperation provisions of the India–Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029, reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to deepening collaboration in key areas.

These include Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR), marine pollution response, environmental protection, and the prevention of transnational maritime crimes. The two sides also agreed to enhance information sharing, maritime domain awareness, and joint efforts in capacity building, training, and technical support.
