NIA registers case against Pannun for asking Sikh soldiers to ‘stop’ PM Modi from hoisting national flag on Aug 15

The FIR filed by the NIA references “credible” information, along with a video obtained from the official ‘X’ account of SFJ US on August 10, 2025. In the video, Pannun calls for preventing Prime Minister Modi from hoisting the national flag

The National Investigation Agency has registered a case against Sikh for Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for instigating Sikh soldiers to prevent Prime Minister Narendra Modi from hoisting the Indian national flag at the Red Fort on August 15 in exchange for Rs 11 crore.

The FIR filed by the NIA references “credible” information, along with a video obtained from the official ‘X’ account of SFJ US on August 10, 2025. In the video, Pannun calls for preventing Prime Minister Modi from hoisting the national flag. He also presented a map of Khalistan, which includes Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh as part of the proposed territory.

The NIA said that Pannun recalled his declaration that Shaheed Jatha of SFJ would fight against India, saying, “indulged in activities for disrupting sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of India and spread disaffection among Sikhs against India.”

According to the FIR, information received by the Central government revealed that Pannun held a “meet the press” event at the Lahore Press Club in Pakistan on August 10. During the event, he addressed journalists via video link from Washington, where he rejected India’s sovereignty over Punjab and advocated for the Khalistan cause.

The FIR said, “During the press meet, he also unveiled SFJ’s new ‘Delhi Banayga Khalistan’ referendum map which incorporates Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi into envisioned Khalistan.”

The Khalistani separatist leader has been charged under Section 61(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (criminal conspiracy) and Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967.

Earlier this week, authorities arrested Pannun’s close aide, Khalistani terrorist Inderjit Singh Gosal, as India and Canada reset ties over the issue. Gosal, who became a key organiser for US-based Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) after the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was arrested in Ottawa on multiple firearms-related charges.
