Amid a weekend of swirling rumours about his health, US President Donald Trump on Monday declared he had “never felt better,” dismissing online speculation after his brief absence from public view.
US President Donald Trump on Monday dismissed off days of wild speculation about his health, saying in a post on Truth Social that he had “never felt better in my life.”
Rumours about Trump’s condition had swirled over the weekend after his absence from public view, with hashtags like #TrumpIsDead trending on X. The chatter grew louder when the White House published a blank schedule on Friday. But on Saturday, the president was spotted leaving for golf in Virginia with his granddaughter Kai, quashing speculation.
Trump returned online Sunday, posting: “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE. Also, DC IS A CRIME FREE ZONE!” — a reference to his administration taking charge of the DC Metropolitan Police Department.
He also amplified a post by conservative commentator DC Draino, who accused the media of a “comical double standard,” writing: “Joe Biden would go multiple days at a time without any public appearances and the media would say he’s ‘sharp’ and ‘top of his game,’ meanwhile, he was wearing diapers and napping. President Trump puts in more public work hours than any other POTUS in US history and media freaks out if he disappears for 24 hours.”
Vice President JD Vance sought to calm concerns, insisting Trump remained in “incredibly good health,” while acknowledging the need to be prepared. “And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days,” he said.
At 79, Trump is the oldest president to be sworn into office, beginning his second term in January.
