Freed by unrest, caught by Delhi Police: Nepal prison escapee held for 2017 murder

Delhi Police have arrested Arjun alias Bhola, a fugitive wanted in a 2017 murder case, who escaped from a Nepal prison during recent unrest and had been on the run for eight years.

A fugitive wanted in a 2017 murder case, who escaped from a Nepal prison during recent unrest, has been arrested by Delhi Police.

The accused, identified as Arjun alias Bhola, had been on the run for eight years and carried a bounty of ₹1 lakh, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Indora told ANI, “Arjun alias Bhola, a fugitive from Nepal, who was wanted in connection with a murder case dating back to November 2017, in the limits of the New Ashok Nagar Police Station. Bhola had been evading capture for eight years and had been residing in Nepal for the past six and half years.”

Police said Bhola was jailed in Nepal for another murder case, for which he had received a 25-year sentence. He managed to flee amid political turmoil and was caught at the Nepal–Bihar border in Raxaul while trying to cross into India.

“He was imprisoned in Nepal for a separate murder case, receiving a 25-year sentence. Following a recent jailbreak during civil unrest in Nepal, Bhola crossed into India, where he was apprehended based on intelligence sources. He was captured at the Nepal-Bihar border in Raxaul,” the official added.

Bhola is accused of committing a gruesome murder in India, allegedly stabbing and decapitating the mother of his friend’s girlfriend after she refused to consent to their marriage.

According to ANI, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has so far detained 79 inmates, including four foreigners, who tried to cross into India after escaping various prisons in Nepal during the ongoing unrest.
