Addressing the media, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “The Prime Minister is on a visit to Tianjin for the SCO summit taking place here. His first engagement this morning was a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China. We released a statement on that meeting.”

This was the second meeting between the two leaders in less than a year. Their last engagement in Kazan in October 2024 had laid down strategic guidelines for advancing bilateral relations and set out goals for both sides to work toward.
“The Prime Minister and President Xi shared their perspectives for the longer-term growth and development of the two countries,” Misri said, adding that the Tianjin talks built on the framework established in Kazan.
