Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday hinted that he could meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, but only after his country receives security guarantees. In addition to this, the Ukrainian President also mentioned Switzerland, Austria or Turkey as the possible venues for the meeting.

“We want to have an understanding of the security guarantees architecture within 7-10 days. And based on that understanding, we aim to hold a trilateral meeting, also with US President Donald Trump,” Zelensky said.

“Switzerland, Austria –- we agree… For us, Turkey is a NATO country and part of Europe. And we are not opposed,” he said, commenting on the possible venues.

Zelenskyy’s response came nearly two days after US President Donald Trump said that he dialled his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and “began arrangements for a meeting” with the Ukrainian President.

Trump stated that once the Putin-Zelenskyy bilateral meeting takes place, it will be followed up by a trilateral meeting, in which Trump will also be a participant.

American President Donald Trump on Monday stated that like Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy also wants to end the Russia-Ukraine war. The US President asserted his confidence and stated that the war is going to end as both Putin and Zelenskyy want the same outcome.

Zelenskyy had also signalled that he is open to having a trilateral meeting with Trump and Putin to negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war. “We need to stop this war…we need support from the US and Europe,” he said.
