Hours after Right-wing youth leader and prominent Trump ally Charlie Kirk was shot dead, MAGA supporter and conservative commentator, Benny Johnson, called him a “martyr” and shared a story from his past.

During a show in Fox New with Laura Ingraham, Johnson recalled an incident when his house was severely damaged and his family faced threats. The incident dates to the mass shooting that took place when DC defunded its police.

“When my own family faced real danger, my home damaged by fire, bullets flying on our block, my infant child and wife under threat, Charlie Kirk literally gave us his house to stay in as long as we needed as we searched for a new place to live in Florida. We were there for months. Charlie never asked for a thing in return,” Johnson said.

“I have a home in Florida and a thriving, growing family because of Charlie Kirk. That’s the type of man he was,” he added.

Kirk was shot dead on Wednesday (local time) in what officials described as a “political assassination,” an act that has stoked fears of escalating political violence in an already polarised United States.

President Donald Trump condemned the killing in a video address from the Oval Office. “This is a dark moment for America,” he said in a message posted on Truth Social, hailing Kirk as a “martyr for truth.”
