Republican candidate in Texas- Valentina Gomez- drew sharp criticism after posting a campaign-style video in which she vowed to “end Islam” while setting fire to a copy of the Quran. Valentina Gomez, who is running for Texas’s 31st Congressional District in the 2026 elections, shared the footage in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that was later deleted.

In the video, Valentina Gomez makes inflammatory remarks, claiming, “Your daughters will be raped and your sons beheaded, unless we stop Islam once and for all.”

She then sets the Quran alight on camera, adding, “America is a Christian nation, so those terrorist Muslims can f*** off to any of the 57 Muslim nations.”

The footage ends with Valentina Gomez declaring she is “powered by Jesus Christ”.

Despite the backlash, Valentina Gomez defended her actions, writing on X, “I stand by my actions & I will never bend a knee to the book that is responsible for the massacre of October 7th, took the lives of 13 US service members at Abbey Gate, & calls for our assassination.”

Valentina Gomez’ Earlier Controversies

This is not the first time Valentina Gomez has attracted controversy. In May 2025, she disrupted a Muslim civic engagement event at the Texas State Capitol, seizing the microphone and declaring, “Islam has no place in Texas. Help me to Congress so we can end the Islamisation of America. I only fear God.”

In December 2024, she released a video depicting a staged execution of a hooded immigrant, calling for “public executions” of undocumented migrants accused of violent crimes. Earlier this year, she was also criticised after filming herself burning LGBTQ+ literature, pledging to ban such material if elected.

Muslim Population In Texas

Even though Muslims make up only around 1% of Texas’s population, Valentina Gomez has repeatedly framed her campaign around anti-Islam rhetoric. Civil rights groups have warned that her remarks risk stoking division and intolerance in a state already grappling with rising hate crimes.
