US President Donald Trump has officially received a formal invitation to the FIFA World Cup 2026, along with the symbolic first ticket for the global sporting event. The ticket was personally presented by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during a visit to the White House on Friday.

“It’s of course row one, seat one… it’s ticket number 45/47,” Infantino said while handing over the ticket to President Trump. The numbers carry notable personal significance: Trump served as the 45th President of the US during his first term and is now serving again as the 47th President.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be one of the largest in the tournament’s history. Scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, the competition will be jointly hosted by 16 cities across three countries in North America. The US will serve as the primary host, with Canada and Mexico co-hosting select matches. This will mark the first time the tournament features an expanded 48-team format and the second time the US has hosted the event, the first being in 1994.

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the draw for the 2026 World Cup will be held at the Kennedy Center in Washington on December 5.

During the meeting, President Trump wore a red cap bearing the slogan, “Trump was right about everything.” In addition to the ceremonial exchange, Trump took the opportunity to speak on a number of issues, both domestic and international.

Commenting on the southern US border wall with Mexico, Trump reiterated the rationale behind painting it black, explaining that the dark colour would absorb heat, making the steel surface extremely hot and thus difficult to climb. He also added that it would help protect the structure from rusting.

Turning to international matters, the President addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, expressing dissatisfaction with how the war is progressing. “I’m not happy about anything about that war — nothing… I think over the next two weeks, we’re going to find out which way it’s going to go, and I better be very happy,” he remarked.
