Several passengers were injured when three carriages of the Jaffar Express derailed in Mastung’s Dasht area following an explosion on the railway track, according to local media reports. The train was traveling from Peshawar to Quetta when the blast struck.

Local media reported that one carriage overturned while two others went off the track. Several passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals after rescue teams and ambulances were dispatched from Quetta.

Rescue operations are continuing at the site with security forces cordoning off the area and railway staff working to assess the damage and clear the track. Reports also noted that the derailment occurred just hours after Pakistani forces carrying out a railway track clearance operation in the same area were attacked with explosives, leaving several casualties. It remains unclear whether the two incidents are connected.

Authorities launched an investigation to identify those responsible. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The number of injured passengers has not been officially confirmed.

The Jaffar Express, a vital passenger service linking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Balochistan, has previously been targeted in attacks on rail infrastructure in the province.
