Pakistan briefed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir during a meeting held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly session in New York on Tuesday, the Pakistani foreign office said in a statement.

The session was chaired by the OIC Secretary General and attended by foreign ministers and senior officials from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Niger. Pakistan’s Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi, presented a briefing to the contact group on recent developments, the Pakistani foreign office’s joint communiqué said.

In the joint communiqué issued after the meeting, the OIC Contact Group reaffirmed earlier resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani foreign office said.

Member states expressed solidarity with Pakistan and took note of the recent ceasefire following military escalation in the region, the Pakistani readout claimed. It also claimed that they appreciated the constructive role of countries that helped mediate between the two sides.

The communiqué also welcomed the April 2025 visit of the OIC Secretary General’s Special Envoy to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and recalled the joint press statement of OIC ambassadors at the UN in May underscoring the importance of a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.

The Contact Group is claimed to have requested the OIC’s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission to consider a fact-finding mission to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the Line of Control.

The ministers also called on the OIC Secretariat and member states to raise the issue at international fora, including the United Nations. Copies of the communiqué are to be shared with all UN member states, the UN Secretary General and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The statement concluded by stressing the need for dialogue and restraint in South Asia and for efforts to ensure peace, stability and development across the region.
